Prevent Burnout
Over the break I had one clear intention. I had to come up with a plan of how to do 2020 differently. My workload/study/family situation wasn’t going to be any lighter. If anything everything has increased. My business is growing, I have to track three children’s school schedule now my baby is in Kindy and my subjects are getting more intense!
After talking to a client about how I was unsure how I was going to be able to make the necessary changes she told me she had just finished reading a book that she thought would be helpful. Willing to jump at any advice I borrowed the book and I’m so glad I did! I’m still taking baby steps to implement it but it’s a game changer.
The third space
In Adam Fraser’s book, The Third Space he demonstrates how creating a third space eases stress and increases productivity. He outlines a really simple, effective thought process to apply during your third space. Allowing you to enter your second space with a clear and positive mindset.
It is such a simple concept but it’s so exciting to think how transformative it can be. Basically it’s creating a “third” space between One & Two. So, I work from home and after I finish a day of one on one clients I take about 5 steps and I’m inside my house. I often “joke” I’m walking into a three pronged attack…. I haven’t cleared my headspace from work to home. I’ve gone straight from space one to space two.
The key here is to create the third space to discard the frustrations of the first space, reflect on the positives and take them with me into the second space. In doing so I’m closing the door to the first space enabling me to be fully present in space two.
Let's do this!
Another book I came across is a book called, “Let’s Do This” written by Andy Ramage. It is essentially written to give you practical steps to maintain your motivation to achieve your goals. After reading this book I truly believe you could achieve ANYTHING you set your mind to by utilising his principals. Again, so simple in it’s concept but I’ve already said it in this blog post and I’m going to say it again, it’s a game changer!
In the book, Andy outlines his “6 streams of positivity”. Briefly, these are sleep, movement, nutrition, connection, quiet time and clear thinking. By tending to these 6 factors every single day has been proven to have a huge positive impact on your motivational success. And it makes sense right?
Having daily check ins with yourself and ensuring your “6 streams of positivity” are being met. It really is a holistic tune up to your daily routine.
For me, using these two concepts will give me some structure into maintaining mindset and taking physical care of my body and mind. Therefore, preventing burnout. It will be a daily check in but as Andy Ramage says in his book, it’s possible for these daily habits become part of your core behaviour. Only making your life easier and even more productive and satisfying.
